The United States Supreme Court announced Tuesday that it will review the scope of the 1998 Securities Litigation Uniform Standards Act, which was passed to keep securities class action suits in federal court. The Act preempts state actions brought for damages for misrepresentations or omissions made "in connection with the purchase or sale of a security," a key phrase whose meaning the High Court is now poised to clarify.
