MINEOLA – Some 42 deputy sheriffs have lost a lawsuit seeking a judicial declaration that only they – and not correction officers – are authorized to transport inmates.
State Supreme Court Justice Thomas P. Phelan, in granting summary judgment to Nassau County and the Sheriff Officers Association, rejected the argument proffered by the deputy sheriffs that the county’s use of correction officers to transport inmates violated Civil Service Law.
