RIVERHEAD – A lawsuit by a half-dozen Suffolk taxpayers over the widely criticized sale of the Chandler Estate in Mount Sinai survived its first round in court last week, when Supreme Court Justice John J.J. Jones Jr. rejected a motion to dismiss it. The county’s $5 million purchase of the 40-acre estate has, in addition to the taxpayers’ suit, so far led to the resignation of the county real estate director, a separate suit by the state attorney general and a criminal investigation.

The motion to dismiss was filed by Peerless Abstract, a defendant and title company owned by Allan Grecco, the former Suffolk real estate director. In a two-page order, Justice Jones found the allegations contained in Glass v. Grecco, 30336-01, were sufficient to state a cause of action.
