ALBANY – A college athlete who went to court and actually minimized his injuries in a traffic accident has been awarded $275,000 in a claim against the state.

Court of Claims Judge John L. Bell was impressed with the positive attitude expressed by Robert Roy, and not terribly impressed with the state’s knowledge of basketball. The state had attempted to downplay Mr. Roy’s injuries, noting that the right-handed basketball player hurt his left arm and elbow and was able to play on the Plattsburgh State varsity team after the accident.
