RIVERHEAD – A stagehand whose employment is contingent on his good standing in a union, where membership depends upon being available to work nights and weekends, has been relieved of outpatient counseling for alcohol abuse as a condition of his probation stemming from a drunken driving conviction.

James R. Lettis, 26, is a stagehand for Broadway, television and concert events and is a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees. Mr. Lettis was placed on probation following a conviction in Nassau County of the felony version of driving while intoxicated. He has since moved and been transferred to the Suffolk County program, and most recently, asked for a second transfer to New York City.
