ALBANY – The smorgasbord of goals on Assembly Judiciary Chairwoman Helene E. Weinstein’s menu can be summed up in one phrase: Access to justice.

The Brooklyn Democrat said there is nothing more important than ensuring that citizens are adequately guided through the gateway to justice – the New York courts. And she said that means funding for legal services programs and a long-awaited pay raise for assigned counsel. Assemblywoman Weinstein described as “appalling” the crisis over County Law 18-b and other indigent defense fees.
