MINEOLA – Noting that a jury seemingly punished a child for the perceived “sins of the parents,” a judge has ruled that a damages award against a school district was insufficient for its role in an attack against a 10-year-old girl on a playground.

State Supreme Court Justice Ira B. Warshawsky observed that the jury’s award of just $15,000 came after the parents were portrayed at trial as having placed pressure on their child to perform well at trial or the family would suffer.
