NYONE WHO DOUBTS that New York will continue to be the capital of the world should recall those terrible days this past September when our people showed their best during the worst disaster ever to strike the city. We’re proud that the Real Estate Board was part of a rescue and recovery effort that is succeeding because of our town’s compassion, generosity, courage, determination, honor, competence and resilience.

Within hours of the assaults, REBNY Chairperson Burton Resnick issued a directive against profiteering from the tragedy and urged our members to hold rents at levels attained on Sept. 10. Our brokers agreed to waive their commissions on leases of a year or less written for dislodged tenants. REBNY brokers also pledged to refrain from using fear as a tactic to influence tenants’ decisions.
