ESTATE OF ALBERT J., (15/XXXX) — Petitioner, the mother of the respondent, Albert J. (Albert), seeks to be appointed the guardian of his person pursuant to Article 17-A of the Surrogate's Court Procedure Act (Article 17-A).1 Albert is thirtythree years old and currently resides with the petitioner. At age eleven, he suffered a brain injury and has been diagnosed with a moderate intellectual disability. The petitioner asserts that, although it has been fifteen years since Albert became an adult, she is seeking to become his guardian at this time primarily to be able to make medical decisions on his behalf.
