The New York City Police Department is violating the state’s open records law by failing for two years to release records pertaining to its policies for seizing property from arrestees, The Bronx Defenders argue in a suit filed on Thursday.

According to Matter of Bronx Defenders, 156520/16, an Article 78 petition filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the legal services provider filed a “broad” request in July 2014 for policies and procedures related to property seizure, as well as an accounting of seized money and property.
