The extended litigation over the Pataki administration’s involuntary civil commitment of sexually violent inmates following the completion of their prison sentences came to an end Tuesday at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

The circuit upheld several rulings Southern District Judge Jed Rakoff made during a jury trial over the administration’s Sexually Violent Predator initiative (SVP), which ended with a finding of liability for only one of several state employees and nominal damages for the one-time incarcerated plaintiffs.
