Retiring Chief Judge Says He Leaves Behind ‘Modern’ System That ‘Delivers Justice’

The 70-year-old Lippman said he’s been with the courts so long—more than 40 years in all, since his first job as a court attorney in Manhattan—that he predates the establishment of the judicial system in its current form. “It’s a modern, transparent, forward-looking judiciary that is a totally different world than the one that I came into. I think I represent, to some degree, an end to that era,” Lippman said.
