The Southern District U.S. Attorney’s Office is not seeking prison time for former state senator Thomas Libous, who is dying of cancer, favoring instead house detention and probation for his conviction of lying to the FBI about using his clout to get his son a job.

Assistant Attorneys James McMahon and Benjamin Allee said some “significant” punishment for Libous is necessary to send the message “that our community will not tolerate corruption and obstruction of justice by elected officials.”
