Reactions among several longtime New York-based white-collar counsel was unanimous: Wednesday’s partial verdict acquitting three former Dewey & LeBoeuf executives on multiple counts of falsifying business records is very good news for the defense.

After nearly four months of trial and 14 full days of deliberations, jurors found former chairman Steven Davis, former executive director Stephen DiCarmine and former chief financial officer Joel Sanders not guilty on 49 of 97 counts of falsifying business records. But jurors, who indicated in the past week that they were struggling, remain split on more than half of the falsification counts and on the more serious grand larceny, scheme to defraud and Martin Act charges.
