Dozens of retailers in a class action against American Express are urging the court to reject a proposed settlement because co-lead plaintiff counsel, Gary Friedman, “has betrayed the class he purports to represent by secretly collaborating with Keila Ravelo,” a former partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher who represented an adversary, MasterCard.

The retailers objecting to the settlement said recently revealed documents show that Friedman, of the Friedman Law Group, disclosed a “staggering amount of confidential information” to Ravelo, “including key litigation and settlement strategies.”
