Magna Carta has endured as an international symbol of liberty. The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution trace their lineage back to this document. As we await a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges, the 800th anniversary of the Great Charter is an encouraging beacon.

In Obergefell, the Supreme Court will soon decide whether the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires a state to issue a marriage license to two people of the same sex. Fundamentally, this is a question about individual liberty—the freedom of two consenting adults to join in marriage.
