The state Court of Appeals continued to accept appeals of criminal cases in 2014 with about twice the frequency as it did in the decade before Jonathan Lippman became chief judge in 2009.

The court’s 2014 annual report showed that judges agreed to hear 81 of 2,090 criminal appeals filed last year, or 3.9 percent. For the six years of Lippman’s chief judgeship, the court has agreed to hear 4.2 percent of the criminal matters it has been asked to by defendants, prosecutors or both.
