About 85,390 boxes of court records, including some Appellate Division records from as as recent as 2011 and Family Court records as recent as 2006, were destroyed by the Jan. 31 fire that engulfed a Brooklyn warehouse.

More than a million case files were destroyed, but it’s still unclear exactly how many, said Ronald Younkins, executive director of the Office of Court Administration. Depending on the case, one could have filled several boxes, while 40 different case files could have fit in a single box, Younkins said.
