John Pessala, a retired Family Court and District Court judge in Nassau County who spent nearly his entire career in public service, died Tuesday at age 65 following a long illness.
Pessala was born in Oulu, Finland and was adopted at age two after his teenaged mother left him at an orphanage. His adoptive parents moved the family to the United States when he was six.
