An $18.7 million judgment in favor of a man who was severely burned in a Bronx apartment fire, including $16 million for pain and suffering, has survived an appellate review.
Without explanation, the state Court of Appeals denied a motion for leave to appeal by the defendants in Peat v. Fordham Hill Owners Corporation, 2014-297. The May 13 decision was the last possible review of the June 2012 jury verdict in Bronx Supreme Court that found the Fordham Hill property management company responsible for the July 1, 2003, blaze that badly injured Christopher Peat.
