Dechert has added Jeffrey Brown as a litigation partner. Brown was most recently co-chief, general crimes unit for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District.

Diamond McCarthy has hired Mark Jay Krum to lead its litigation practice in New York and chair its national white-collar defense and securities litigation group. Krum previously ran his own firm.

Watson, Farley & Williams has promoted to corporate partner Steven Hollander and shipping finance lawyer John Benson.

Harry Valetk has joined Baker & McKenzie‘s global privacy and North America international commercial practices as counsel. He joins from MetLife, where he was director of its global privacy office.

Harris Beach has added Christopher Hinckley as senior counsel in its Albany office and a member of its government compliance and investigations practice group. Hinckley was legal and general counsel to the Missouri Gaming Commission.

Blank Rome has added Carlos Ortiz as a partner in its white collar defense and investigations group. Ortiz joins from Edwards Wildman Palmer, where he was a partner in its white collar and litigation practices.

• Real estate law firm Belkin Burden Wenig & Goldman has hired Lawrence Shepps as of counsel in its real estate transactional practice. He was of counsel to Wachtel Missry.

• Public interest law firm Empire Justice Center has added Amy Lowenstein as a staff attorney in Albany working on health policy and training for advocates on health law issues; Reena Arora as a staff attorney in the White Plains office focusing on workers’ rights; Daniel Brennan as a staff attorney in its foreclosure prevention unit in Rochester; Nicole Harris, also in the foreclosure prevention unit in Rochester; and Jackeline Saavedra, in the Long Island office in its immigration unit.
