In light of the overwhelming bi-partisan support in both the New York Senate and Assembly and by the governor for the funding of 20 additional Family Court judges, the New York State Coalition for More Family Court Judges finds the letter by an attorney chairing a civil court bar committee questioning Albany’s will to create additional Family Court judgeships to be far too pessimistic (“Does Albany Have the Will to Create Family Court Judgeships?” NYLJ, April 24).

Our coalition of nearly 100 organizations from throughout New York State is grateful to the Senate, Assembly and Gov. Andrew Cuomo for recognizing the dire need for more Family Court judges and including funding in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Throughout our budget advocacy, the support of legislators from counties outside New York City and from New York City, and then from the governor demonstrates a real commitment to the children and families who rely on the Family Court.
