The restoration of the 1828 bust of Thomas Addis Emmet was celebrated in a rededication ceremony in the rotunda of Supreme Court at 60 Centre Street Thursday.
Emmet, the founder of Emmet, Marvin & Martin, was recognized as a leader of the New York bar, served as state Attorney General from 1812-1813 and argued important appeals, including ‘Gibbons v. Ogden,’ which established the principle of federal control over interstate commerce. Speaking at the ceremony was Administrative Judge Sherri Klein Heitler.
The event was sponsored by the State Supreme Court, Civil Branch, New York County; New York County Clerk; The Irish American Bar Association; The Historical Society of New York Courts; The Brehon Law Society and the cultural diversity committee of the Supreme Court and the county clerk’s office.
