An attorney for an inmate who insists he did not commit violent sex crimes dueled with Nassau County prosecutors yesterday on what evidence should be admitted and considered relevant when determining his risk to the community.

Ronald Bower is to be paroled next month after 23 years in prison. His release is based at least in part on a letter from Thomas Schellhammer, the chief of the state Attorney General’s conviction review bureau, who told the parole board that it “appears highly unlikely that Bower committed the crimes” (NYLJ, March 3 and 11).
