Judges and other court personnel who are harassed through filings under the Uniform Commercial Code because of their official positions can seek redress in the courts under a new law signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The legislation, A8013/S4042, allows the courts to establish special procedures for the dismissal of liens and other unfounded filings made under the UCC against officers of the court. The new statute would also amend the Penal Law to make the offering of a false instrument for filing in the first degree a Class E felony if the fraudulent filings against court officers are made in retaliation for performance of their official duties.
