A mother who drowned her three children but was found not responsible due to mental illness and retained the ability to know her conduct was wrong cannot now financially benefit from her actions, a Nassau County surrogate ruled Wednesday.

Leatrice Brewer sought to inherit part of the $350,000 estate of her three young children, whom she killed during a February 2008 psychotic episode. Brewer admitted she was the killer but believed that she was saving them from a voodoo curse, according to mental health professionals.
