A shareholder in the Lower East Side’s East River Housing co-op has won a reprieve from a court order that she get rid of her pet pit bull, which she says she needs to deal with her depression, or be evicted.

On Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development charged that the co-op discriminated against Stephanie Aaron by failing to make a reasonable accommodation for the dog, Rosie. The charge would normally go before a HUD administrative law judge, but either party can choose to go to federal court instead. The co-op’s attorney, Rosenberg & Estis partner Bradley Silverbush, said the co-op plans to do that.
