A civil rights attorney who spent almost a week in jail for civil contempt of court was released Monday after he agreed to pay $165,000 toward his debts and to obey all subpoenas in a pending bankruptcy proceeding.

Eastern District Bankruptcy Judge Dorothy Eisenberg, sitting in Central Islip, ordered Eric Sanders of The Sanders Firm taken into custody after he failed to comply with a turnover order in his Chapter 7 liquidation case. He was incarcerated on Oct. 15 and held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn (NYLJ, Oct. 18).
