Desmond Connell, an attorney who pleaded guilty to participating in an insurance fraud, was disbarred Tuesday by a unanimous Appellate Division, First Department panel. Connell was disbarred pursuant to Judiciary Law §90(4)(b), which requires the disbarment of an attorney convicted of a felony.

On Oct. 13, 2011, Connell pleaded guilty in Bronx Supreme Court to grand larceny in the third degree, a Class D felony, and scheme to defraud in the first degree, a Class E felony. His disbarment was effective as of the date of his plea. Connell was sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to pay $75,000 in restitution.
