A woman who participated in a conspiracy to export as many as 18,000 endangered reptiles from the United States into Canada has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of post-release supervision, according to the Office of Northern District U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian. Olivia Terrance, 28, of Hogansburg, was sentenced Friday by Judge Norman Mordue in Syracuse.

Prosecutors said Terrance helped smuggle boxes containing reptiles across the St. Lawrence River on Aug. 4, 2010. She was followed by agents in cars and a helicopter as she transported the reptiles in a boat across the St. Lawrence River to Canada for sale to collectors and retailers in violation of U.S. laws against the unlicensed sale of endangered and threatened species.
