Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick, the former Court of Appeals judge, has been appointed by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, to the state Indigent Legal Services Board. Ciparick, who retired from the court on Dec. 31, is now of counsel at Greenberg Traurig.
The nine-member board is chaired by Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman. Its members are nominated by the governor, the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Association of Counties, the chief judge and legislative leaders. Board members are not paid.
The board, established in 2010, distributes grants to agencies providing legal services to poor criminal defendants.
