Southern District Chief Judge Loretta Preska said the increasingly harsh impact of continued budget cuts prompted her and her fellow chief judges from 86 federal district courts to appeal directly to Congress last week.
Preska and Chief Judge Gerald Rosen of the Eastern District of Michigan co-wrote a letter to congressional leaders last week expressing "grave concern" about the Judiciary's ability to carry out its mission in the wake of years of cuts with the possibility of more to come during the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1 (NYLJ, Aug. 16).
