ALBANY – After eight years of legal wrangling, the state Court of Appeals on Tuesday cleared the way for the state attorney general to pursue a civil enforcement action against two former executives of American International Group (AIG).

In a unanimous opinion by Judge Robert Smith (See Profile), the court held that the evidence that former AIG chairman and CEO Maurice "Hank" Greenberg and former CFO Howard Smith perpetrated a fraud is sufficient to withstand a summary judgment motion.
