An attorney who failed to respond to a grievance committee investigation has been disbarred. After being suspended last year for allegedly neglecting client matters and not supplying subpoenaed escrow account records, Joseph Mainiero of Manhattan was disbarred by the Appellate Division, First Department, in a decision Thursday for failing to cooperate with the committee's investigation.

Mainiero was suspended in a July 2012 First Department order, which noted one former client's complaint about Mainiero's neglect of his case and failure to account for $4,782 in escrow funds. Though the funds and an additional $750 in legal fees were reimbursed after one bounced check, the client said Mainiero never paid another $400 owed for a judgment on the client's credit report. The suspension order noted that Mainiero did not comply with a subpoena for the escrow account records.
