• Shearman & Sterling has added Carla Passos as counsel in the capital markets group and Latin American practice, splitting her time between New York and São Paulo. She was with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

• Crowell & Moring has added Frank DeMento as senior counsel in the insurance and reinsurance group. He was a vice president at XL Reinsurance America.

• Zachary Smith has joined O’Melveny & Myers as a partner in the restructuring practice. He was with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.

• Ruskin Moscou Faltischek has appointed Jonathan Sullivan and Matthew Didora as cochairs of the litigation department. The two assume leadership of the department from Douglas Cooper, who has been chair since 2011.

• Hodgson Russ has opened a new office in Saratoga Springs and has closed its Johnstown office. Staff from Johnstown will relocate to Saratoga Springs, and they will be joined by several attorneys from the Albany branch. Mario Papa is managing partner of the Saratoga Springs location.

• Hoffmann & Baron cofounder Charles Hoffmann has become president of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association for 2013-2014.

• Professor Patrick Connors of Albany Law School has taken over the authorship of Professor David Siegel‘s treatise, New York Practice (5th. ed 2011 West). It had been authored by Siegel since the first edition in 1978. The July 2013 Pocket Part, which includes major developments in New York civil procedure through the winter of 2013, is expected to be published shortly.

• Robert Creighton of Farrell Fritz has joined the board of directors of Family Service League, a Long Island nonprofit. He is a partner in the banking, corporate, distressed assets and health care departments.
