The Appellate Division, Third Department, has ordered the one-year suspension of David Avigdor, a Connecticut-based attorney, for his role in a mortgage scam. A four-judge panel ruled unanimously for a sanction against Avigdor that mirrored the one-year suspension he received from regulators in Connecticut. The New York suspension was applied retroactively to July 2, 2012, the same day the Connecticut sanction took effect. Avigdor has been admitted to practice in the Third Department since 1992.

The one-year term was given "in the interest of justice" after considering the mitigating factors, said the panel, which noted Avigdor’s remorse for his conduct and his 32 years of service as a rabbi to a New Haven, Conn., congregation. Justices Thomas Mercure (See Profile), John Lahtinen (See Profile), William McCarthy (See Profile) and Elizabeth Garry (See Profile) joined the New York ruling. Avignor was represented by Pery Krinsky of Manhattan.
