The White House has nominated Vernon Broderick, a litigation partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, for the vacancy on the Southern District bench created last April when Judge Deborah Batts (See Profile) took senior status. Broderick, who concentrates on white-collar criminal investigations and prosecutions, regulatory investigations and proceedings, and business litigation, was recommended for the slot in November by Senator Charles Schumer.

Broderick, 50, earned his B.A. at Yale University in 1985 and his J.D. at Harvard Law School in 1988. He then joined Weil Gotshal as an associate. In 1994, he joined the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s Office, where he handled criminal investigations and prosecutions, focusing on narcotics and gangs. After having risen to chief of the violent gangs unit, Broderick returned to Weil Gotshal in 2002.
