Eugene Nardelli, a former Appellate Division, First Department, justice, has joined Boies, Schiller & Flexner as counsel in the litigation and appellate practices. Nardelli, 78, was on the First Department bench for 18 years, and had served as presiding justice. He retired in 2011. Nardelli was first elected to Manhattan Supreme Court in 1986, and served in the criminal term for two years. From 1988 to 1993, he was on the civil term bench. He began his judicial career as a Civil Court judge.

At Boies Schiller, Nardelli said he expects to consult on appellate work and advise on trial tactics. Boies Schiller partner Nicholas Gravante, a friend who is a member of the First Department’s disciplinary committee, offered him the opportunity, Nardelli said. "I want to continue involving myself in the law," he said. "It’s been more than a major part of my existence."
