The Working Families Party yesterday filed papers opposing a motion by Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan Jr. to submit under seal his reasons for maintaining secrecy in connection to a political corruption probe at least partially related to a 2009 controversy over the party’s alleged use of a non-profit to aid liberal Democratic candidates it supported in a City Council election.

Donovan submitted papers under seal asking to be removed from the case; Roger Bennett Adler was appointed special district attorney by Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Fern Fisher; the Working Families Party moved to unseal the record; and last week Donovan asked the Appellate Division, Second Department, for permission to respond under seal, arguing that if he were to publicly disclose why secrecy is warranted the issue would be moot.
