A man accused of scheming with his incarcerated business associate to murder a federal judge and prosecutor will plead guilty for his role in the plot later this month. A brief court document filed yesterday reveals that Dejvid Mirkovic is scheduled to plead guilty on March 13 in connection to a purported scheme to kill Eastern District Judge Joseph Bianco and Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Gatz. Mirkovic and codefendant Joseph Romano were indicted last fall on two counts of conspiracy to murder an employee of the United States, facing up to life in prison (NYLJ, Nov. 9).

Authorities broke up the scheme using an undercover police officer who posed as a hit man. Romano was incarcerated after pleading guilty before Bianco to defrauding coin collectors in a case led by Gatz. The case started with a tip from a confidential informant who said Romano was looking for a hit man. As the scheme progressed, some of Mirkovic’s duties included relaying information from Romano to the hit man and giving the hit man a $22,000 down payment for the $40,000 job.
