• E. Michael Kavanagh, a former justice of the Appellate Division, Third Department who left the bench on Dec. 31, has joined National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM), an alternative dispute resolution provider.

• Gregory Ruback has joined DLA Piper as a partner in the finance practice. Ruback, who was a partner at Proskauer Rose, represents corporate borrowers, including private equity firms, and financial institutions and agents in bilateral and syndicated acquisition and working capital financings.

• McKenna Long & Aldridge has added Anthony Williams as a partner focusing on commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities and private equity investments. He was a partner at DLA Piper.

• Sahn Ward Coschignano & Baker in Uniondale has added Daniel Cohan as counsel. Cohan, who focuses on estate and tax planning, probate law and estate administration, was counsel to Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman.

• Bracewell & Giuliani has elected to its partnership Philip Bezanson, who focuses on white-collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement, internal investigations and general commercial litigation.

• Thomas Ruggiero has been promoted to associate general counsel at real estate firm Jack Resnick & Sons.

• McCarter & English corporate partner Thomas Kesoglou has been appointed by the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors as chairman of its summer conference in Chicago. He was also named group’s "chapter leader of the year."

• John Racanelli, a commercial real estate partner at Farrell Fritz in Uniondale, has been elected secretary of the Flushing Willets Point Corona Local Development Corporation‘s board of directors.
