The state Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing Feb. 4 in Albany on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s nomination of Jenny Rivera, a City University of New York School of Law professor, to the state Court of Appeals.

The hearing will begin at noon in Room 124 of the state Capitol. Barring unforeseen developments, after testimony from witnesses, the committee will hear from Rivera herself and vote on her nomination. The full Senate will vote on her nomination the following week. It must act by Feb. 15.

Langdon Chapman, counsel to the committee, said hearing speakers will be by invitation only. Written comments may be sent to or by fax to 518-426-6948.

Rivera is the first nominee Cuomo has made to the Court of Appeals (NYLJ, Jan. 16). If confirmed, she will replace Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick, who stepped down at the end of 2012 due to mandatory court retirement rules (NYLJ, Dec. 26). No gubernatorial nominee to the Court of Appeals has been voted down by the Senate since the court became an appointed bench under a 1978 state constitutional amendment.
