Rochester-based Harter Secrest & Emery has named a new firmwide managing partner, Michael McEvoy, who has served as chair of the firm’s tax group. He was elected for a three-year term starting Jan. 1, succeeding retiring managing partner Maureen Alston, who has led the firm for the past nine years. During Alston’s leadership, Harter Secrest increased its attorney headcount by 30 to 136, according to a firm statement.

McEvoy earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1979 and joined Harter Secrest two years later. As managing partner, he will oversee attorneys, staff, budget, business development, client relations and office operations for each of the firm’s four office locations, including Buffalo, Albany and Naples, Fla., the firm said.
