ALBANY – A judge in Albany is considering whether a county attorney accused of self-dealing has rendered a civil action moot by promising not to do it again and paying back some of the money.

The case pits Madison County’s part-time county attorney, John Campanie, against two taxpayers who called him to task for receiving an estimated $800,000 after a county case referred to outside counsel was cross-referred to Campanie’s law firm as a consultant.
