DISTINCTIONS

MCGUIREWOODS: Brian Parker, co-chairman of the life sciences industry group, has been appointed managing partner of the firm’s Pittsburgh office, succeeding David Pusateri, who was recently named deputy managing partner of the firm’s corporate practice. Parker focuses his practice on defending pharmaceutical companies in litigation involving both prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

DLA PIPER: Beni Surpin joins the firm’s technology, sourcing and commercial group, and its intellectual property and technology and corporate practices, as partner in the San Diego office. He will focus on intellectual property, technology and commercial transactions. Previously, Surpin was a partner at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton.

DYKEMA GOSSETT: Thomas Cleary joins the firm’s corporate finance practice group as partner in the Los Angeles office and will focus on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, venture capital and private-equity financings. Previously, Cleary was a partner at SNR Denton.

EDWARDS WILDMAN PALMER (Boston): Jonathan Yorke joins the firm’s insurance and reinsurance department in the London office and will focus on advising clients in the insurance and banking sectors. Previously, Yorke was a partner at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert. Additionally, Akash Sachdeva joins the firm’s intellectual property department as partner in the London office and will focus on intellectual property litigation. Previously, Sachdeva was of counsel to Allen & Overy.

HINSHAW & CULBERTSON (Chicago): David Lewis joins the firm’s lawyers’ professional responsibility/risk management group as partner in the New York office and will focus on assisting attorneys on legal ethics/professional responsibility and risk management matters. Previously, Lewis was a partner at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman.

MORRISON & FOERSTER: Dale Araki joins the firm’s corporate group as partner in the Tokyo office and will focus on representing Japanese, European and U.S. companies in cross-border acquisitions, and joint ventures. Previously, Araki was a partner at O’Melveny & Myers.

PEPPER HAMILTON (Philadelphia): Eric Kline joins the firm’s corporate and securities practice group as partner in the Pittsburgh office and will focus on strategic partnering and joint venture transactions. Previously, Kline was a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

SCHIFF HARDIN (Chicago): Matthew Kluchenek joins the firm’s securities and futures regulation group as partner in the Chicago office and will focus on complex financial-market matters. Previously, Kluchenek was a partner at Henderson & Lyman. Additionally, Keith Costa joins the firm’s restructuring, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights group as partner in the New York office and will focus on out-of-court workouts and debt restructuring, and commercial litigation. Previously, Costa was a partner at Akerman Senterfitt.

SEYFARTH SHAW (Chicago): James Clough joins the firm’s corporate department as partner in the Los Angeles office and will focus on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital. Previously, Clough was a partner at Rutan & Tucker.
