Nearly three months after back-to-back rainstorms saturated Orange County’s principal government office building, attorneys and judges are struggling to cope with disruption that may take years to remedy.

Confronting mold, collapsed ceilings and other damage from Hurricane Irene (Aug. 28) and Tropical Storm Lee (Sept. 6), County Executive Edward Diana on Sept. 8 declared the Orange County Government Center in Goshen uninhabitable. Among the facilities declared off limits were six Supreme Court courtrooms and chambers for three justices. Since then, those judges have been operating from an annex to the county building, sharing space with Family and County Court.
