The degree to which Emanuel Goffer looked up to and followed the lead of his older brother, Zvi Goffer, as he bribed former Ropes & Gray attorneys for inside client information was considered Friday by Judge Richard Sullivan in weighing how much time Emanuel Goffer should spend in prison.

Ordering a three-year term for Emanuel Goffer, 32, that was a downward departure from the 41 months that was the low end of his sentencing range, the judge said the guiding role of Zvi Goffer could not be ignored.
