Looking to expand its software business, technology giant Hewlett-Packard has agreed to purchase British software maker Autonomy Corporation for approximately $10 billion.

The deal comes amid a number of other HP announcements, including the possible sale or spin-off of the company’s personal computer division and the termination of its tablet and smartphone businesses. HP’s latest decisions signal a move toward a more software-centric business model for the company known for its consumer gadgets.
