Western District Judge David G. Larimer has revoked bail for a U.S. Department of Defense interpreter accused of videotaping himself raping his wife’s 13-year-old sister in suburban Rochester. The judge reversed the release order of a magistrate judge and ordered Mohamad Nazir Ahmad detained pending trial.

Records show that Mr. Ahmad, a 58-year-old native of Afghanistan, was a defense department interpreter when he was arrested and charged with production of child pornography. He faces a mandatory prison term of at least 15 years. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson found Mr. Ahmad, who has few ties to the Western District and frequently travels, a flight risk, but set bail after imposing stringent monetary and non-monetary conditions.
