About one in six of the 60,000 attorneys who received notices during the past six months that their reregistration dates were approaching have used a new online option to pay the $375 biennial fee, Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau said yesterday in an interview.

Laura Weigley, the Office of Court Administration’s director of administrative services, said the online option is not only convenient for lawyers, but it also will save the court system money by helping to reduce the workload of its already thinned ranks. When lawyers reregister online, for example, they enter their own data, bypassing the need for workers to enter the information, she said. Increased use of the online option also eases the task of reconciling payments received from re-registering attorneys, she added.
